Major Changes Coming....

One of the major changes that I am changing is my hosting service. As of now I have the Lloyd Thomas information on two hosting sites. I am combining them into one site. This required me to create a name for the web site so I have decided to name it:

www.usslloydthomas.com

I could have named it .org or .net but that would have, to me anyway, been very official sounding so I decided to stick with .com so it is still the unofficial Lloyd Thomas Web Site.

What will be new you may ask?

One of the major things I have been and still in the process of doing is going through the web site and correcting, updating, adding names, adding pictures, correcting miss-spelled names, taking out duplicates, etc. You will not see all of this immediately as I do it on my computer at work or home and cannot be seen by you until I post it on the Internet. When I do finish, this site will list over 3,600 Lloyd Thomas crewmember names spanning the years from 1947 to 1972. I believe it will be the most comprehensive listing of crewmember names on the Internet (even if I say so myself   :-)

Another major feature is that I am going to make the web site interactive in that you will have the capabilities to search the entire crew list by name. I will also be adding the 1964 cruise book.

As some of you know I have some capabilities of doing country wide searches for crew members and have successfully found approximately 18 crew members that other crew members were looking for. As long as I have the resources I will do lookups for people that would like to find crew members they served with. I will have a form on the site to fill out for anyone wanting these lookups.

Of course, there is no charge for this service. Just don't abuse it. In other words, I will not do a search for 20 people for one person. Too much typing   ;-)

I have a database that contains information on each crewmember that includes their serial number. This is where I will need the help of a Yeoman. I would like to know what information was contained in the serial number, most importantly, if the number designates the area or city/town where the person joined the Navy. This would help me in looking up crew members as the majority of people stay in the area where they were born or enlisted, unless they retired to Florida or Arizona  :-)
